Novelty theme beds turn bedtime into part of the fun. Playhouse-style walls, porthole windows and pitched "roofs" give younger children a bed they're genuinely excited to sleep in — a popular first "big bed" for toddlers and young children moving up from a cot, and a natural fit for a garden, seaside or storybook-themed room.

Our range spans low-to-the-ground junior playhouse beds for the youngest children through to raised cabin-height versions with a desk, drawers or storage cube built in underneath, from Kids Avenue, Thuka and Hoppekids.

Kids Avenue playhouse beds

Kids Avenue's Mini and Midi Playhouse Beds are the most popular in this collection, with a low-pitched roofline over the headboard and a choice of what goes underneath.

Thuka playhouse beds

Thuka's playhouse range leans further into the theme, with a full pitched roof, porthole-style windows on some models and a wooden "den" version with proper walls around the sleeping platform.

Junior shorty playhouse beds

Hoppekids' junior shorty playhouse beds sit low to the ground with no raised platform, making them the right choice for the youngest children moving out of a cot bed.

These take the shorter 160cm junior mattress rather than a full-length single, and being low to the ground, they carry none of the raised-bed safety considerations below.

Safety and age guidance

The Junior Shorty range sits at floor level, so there's no raised-bed guidance to consider. Our raised, cabin-height playhouse beds and the Tobo slide bed follow the same guidance as our Midsleeper Cabin Beds — generally suitable from around age 6, with individual readiness (climbing confidently, settling calmly at height) mattering more than age alone. Our Mid Sleeper Safety Guide covers this in full, including safe mattress depth.

Novelty theme beds: common questions

What age is a playhouse bed suitable for?
Our low junior shorty playhouse beds suit the youngest children moving up from a cot, typically from around 18 months to 3 years. The raised, cabin-height playhouse beds follow the same age-6 guidance as our midsleeper cabin beds.

What size mattress does a playhouse bed need?
The junior shorty versions take a 160cm junior mattress. The raised Kids Avenue, Thuka and Tobo beds take a standard single — check the specific size on the product page, as this varies by model.

Can I add storage to a playhouse bed later?
Some models are sold as a bed frame only with matching storage available separately — check the product page for compatible add-ons, or contact us and we can advise on a specific model.

Do playhouse beds work for older children too?
They're designed and styled for younger children. For a similar cabin-bed height with a more grown-up look, see our Midsleeper Cabin Beds.

Looking for something less themed but a similar cabin-bed height? See our Midsleeper Cabin Beds, or for the youngest children our Junior Shorty Beds.
